Key Quotes From the Episode:

“[On the biggest challenge moving over from engineering to finance] The biggest challenge was the urge to be very commercial and almost getting ahead of the numbers whereas the first and foremost thing you had to do was to get the month end right, get the numbers right, believe the numbers, nail those down and then move from there.” [03:37]

“[On why story telling is important] We’re hardwired to listen and absorb stories so …. I recommend put as much time as you did in getting those numbers to putting together a story, make it interesting, make sure you’ve got some short straplines that you can hang onto that story and then focus on the delivery of that story .” [06:36]

“[On the important of managing stakeholders before a meeting/presentation] for some people I hadn’t taken them through the results beforehand and they reacted against it, so next quarter when I did I made sure that I pretty much man marked those people.” [09:27]

“[On part of the job of Commercial Finance] Having conversations about the numbers.” [12:29]

“[On a potential danger with technology] There’s almost a danger that you love you technology and you should be careful about that because it won’t love you back.” [13:51]

“[On the secret of great presenting] Practice, Practice, Practice!” [18:41]
