What’s the best qualification, certification or training for finance & accounting professionals?

I recently just paid my chartered accounting certification for another year, but how relevant is it today? Only last week I was advising a team leader to pursue an MBA in Finance as opposed to an accounting qualification. Was this the right thing to do?
